Semi-educational and organically funny, “Well, I Laughed” is a podcast for listeners who find themselves in search of a good laugh and their next strange story to tell at parties. Each week one of our hosts shares what they have learned on topics ranging from the Unabomber to Frankenstein. Join Grant, a public school teacher, and Maia, an engineer, as they find the humor in the mundane. Well, I Laughed, and we think you will too. New episodes every Wednesday.

MEET YOUR HOSTS
Grant Thomas
Grant survived growing up in Nebraska to accomplish every Midwest kid’s dream - moving away after paying in-state tuition for college. After a year in California, he landed in Denver in the summer of 2016. He is a public school teacher, and has grown accustomed to a semi-willing audience.
Recently (and proudly) 30, Grant lives on Denver’s westside. Famously pet averse and fortunately single, he parents several plants. He hikes, hosts dinner parties, and once met Dave Franco. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 2015. 6 feet tall if it matters…
Maia Warner
Maia is originally from the suburbs of Denver, CO and will take any and every opportunity to remind everyone that she is a rare “Colorado Born and Raised” 🙄. Having ADHD and a love of having approximate knowledge of many things as led her into many serendipitous adventures - starting this podcast being one of them. If you’ve ever gone down an internet search rabbit hole, you’ll love the stories she shares.
Outside of the podcast (because once you have a podcast it becomes your whole personality, right?) she lives with her fiancé, Casey, and two dogs, Monet and Bowser. She has a BS in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering and works as a Project Engineer for an Engineering Consulting firm (don't ask her what she does for work - she still doesn't know how to define "consultant").
What happened to Laci Peterson, and did the media get it all wrong? In this deeply researched episode, Maia and Grant unpack one of the most polarizing true-crime cases of the early 2000s: the trial of Scott Peterson. Maia walks us through the mysterious circumstances and tragic death of Laci Peterson. We meet her husband Scott Peterson, learn his alibi, and end up with some serious open questions. What was the killer's motive? How does the media's portrayal of a case affect its outcome? How does Amber Frey make or break this case? From his secret affair with Amber Frey to the haunting discovery of Lacey’s body in San Francisco Bay, they walk through the full timeline, the media frenzy, and the courtroom drama that gripped the nation. Along the way, they explore the shadowy backstory of discredited serologist Fred Zane, the early days of the Innocence Project, and the forensic puzzle pieces, fishing licenses, search histories, and cadaver-dog alerts that either built or broke the case. With a sharp breakdown of jury strategies and an unfiltered “rat-brain” take from Maia on the trial’s most debated moments, this episode lays out the facts and dares you to decide where you stand. A true crime episode, and a potentially unsolved case! 00:00:00 Catch-Up 00:14:24 Open Waters Open Questions 00:23:23 Meet Scott & Amber 00:32:12 Anatomy of a Romance 01:15:02 Press Conference Fallout 01:32:00 Bodies in the Bay 01:50:53 Jury Selection Roulette 02:06:20 The Concrete & Cadaver Dog Experts 03:06:45 Prosecution’s Closing Argument 03:18:20 Defense’s Closing Argument 03:35:10 Sentencing & Death Penalty 03:50:05 Early Appeals & Clemency Movements

What is eco-terrorism and... is it all bad? In the 1990s the US government found out what happened when you anger young environmentalist and the power of positive reinforcement for things like sabotage. Grant covers who was the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and the degree to which their crimes deserved the label "terrorist". Saviors of the planet, terrorist, or both? This week's episode of Well, I Laughed, we unpack the Earth Liberation Front (ELF), the FBI’s sweeping “Operation Backfire,” and why slapping the word terrorist on young environmentalists is trickier than it sounds. Expect rattlesnake‑adjacent sprinklers, late‑night‑taco diplomacy, oversharing Tesla drivers, GMO tree farms, the 1999 WTO protests, two arsonists still on the run, and—of course—one painfully ordinary LinkedIn profile. Are these fire‑starters saviors of the planet, criminals, or a bit of both? Find out on the latest episode of Well, I Laughed!

Laugh, cringe, and question everything you thought was normal—this jam-packed listener episode has it all. Maia and Grant spiral through a whirlwind of chaos, comedy, and oddly relatable life hacks—starting with the brilliance of a “receiving hour” to curb messaging guilt. From there, it’s off to the gym: Maia recounts a cardio mishap that ends in a starfish-shaped crisis, while Grant shrugs his way through circuit anarchy. Nature talk includes a spiritual birdwatching moment atop Green Mountain and a rooftop feeder showdown between pigeons and finches. Then things take a turn with classroom drama involving AI essay detectors, organ-harvesting conspiracies (seriously), and jaw-dropping listener tales—including a teen fugitive’s 40 mph joyride-cry escape and a widow’s revenge eviction complete with sheriff backup and a midnight pet rescue. Toss in rogue houseplants, literary grudges against Wuthering Heights, and a hot take on summer break for grown-ups, and you’ve got one delightfully unhinged ride.

OUR ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! And a story as odd as any we've told. A potentially unsolved mystery. A podcast episode about a spooky (and at times hilarious) cryptid that takes us from the streets of London, to the Isle of Man, to the space between walls. You will not believe what the creature ends up being, or what is ends up saying. That is, if you believe the story at all. Depends on the hill you're willing to die on. Gef the Talking Mongoose AKA Jack the Talking Weasel AKA The Dalby Spook!
They trace the origins of a comfortably well-off Liverpool family, the Irvings, who purchase a remote farmhouse called Doarlish Cashen on the Isle of Man. What begins as a charming rural investment soon turns terrifying when a “weasel-like” creature emerges from the walls, rapidly learns to speak nursery rhymes and local slang, and terrorizes the family with knocks, bangs, and sardonic laughter. Dubbed “Jack” and later “Jeff the Talking Mongoose,” this entity befriends the Irvings (especially their youngest daughter, Voirrey) but drives neighbors and investigators wild with fear and fascination. Captain Harold “Dennis” Eggerton and famed paranormal investigator Harry Price eventually descend on the island, only to witness raps on panels, voice projections, and even spoon-clattering chains—validating one of the most bizarre haunting cases ever recorded.
