Semi-educational and organically funny, “Well, I Laughed” is a podcast for listeners who find themselves in search of a good laugh and their next strange story to tell at parties. Each week one of our hosts shares what they have learned on topics ranging from he Unabomber to Frankenstein. Join Grant, a public school teacher, and Maia, an engineer, as they find the humor in the mundane. Well, I Laughed, and we think you will too. New episodes every Wednesday.

MEET YOUR HOSTS
Grant Thomas
Grant survived growing up in Nebraska to accomplish every Midwest kid’s dream - moving away after paying in-state tuition for college. After a year in California, he landed in Denver in the summer of 2016. He is a public school teacher, and has grown accustomed to a semi-willing audience.
Recently (and proudly) 30, Grant lives on Denver’s westside. Famously pet averse and fortunately single, he parents several plants. He hikes, hosts dinner parties, and once met Dave Franco. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 2015. 6 feet tall if it matters…
Maia Warner
Maia is originally from the suburbs of Denver, CO and will take any and every opportunity to remind everyone that she is a rare “Colorado Born and Raised” 🙄. Having ADHD and a love of having approximate knowledge of many things as led her into many serendipitous adventures - starting this podcast being one of them. If you’ve ever gone down an internet search rabbit hole, you’ll love the stories she shares.
Outside of the podcast (because once you have a podcast it becomes your whole personality, right?) she lives with her fiancé, Casey, and two dogs, Monet and Bowser. She has a BS in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering and works as a Project Engineer for an Engineering Consulting firm (don't ask her what she does for work - she still doesn't know how to define "consultant").
This week on Well, I Laughed! Ashley goes on a girls trip and accidentally helps catch a criminal in the process. Jen shares that she might also be related to Napoleon (the general, not the dynamite). Cedar teaches a horrible coworker a wonderful lesson. Katelyn learns about supporting women's rights and wrongs during… a WWE style grocery brawl. All that and more, this week on Well, I Laughed!
Ever find yourself in a grocery store thinking, “This could turn into a crime scene”? You’re not alone. In this off-the-rails episode, Maia Warner and Grant Thomas dive into listener-submitted stories featuring supermarket melees, office pranks so convincing they sparked HR-level panic, and Airbnb stays that ended with actual police involvement. From a bakery manager caught in the middle of a snack aisle smackdown to a petty coworker takedown that borders on genius, this one’s got drama, disaster, and just enough poor judgment to keep things interesting. Along the way, Grant confesses how far he wouldn’t go to save his friends from danger, Maia questions the morality of reality TV, and the duo explores the strategic (and slightly chaotic) art of prank emails. If you’ve ever thought your life was a little too ridiculous to be real, you’ll feel right at home here.

Jackie Chan’s best movie is hard to name. He’s been leaping off rooftops since the 1960s, but six decades of big‑screen magic still haven’t revealed his most gripping story: his family. This week we meet the Chans. While Jackie shoots the documentary Traces of a Dragon, he discovers the astonishing truth about his parents, Chan Chi‑Long “Charles” and Chan Lee‑Lee “Lily”: a Nationalist spy‑turned‑Shanghai gang boss and a blue‑flower‑wearing opium smuggler whose gambling savvy made her an underworld legend. Their saga of drug runs, Japanese air‑raids, abandoned half‑siblings and a war‑torn China shows just how complicated love, life and family were for “The Spy Next Door.” Before that deep‑dive, Grant and Maia swap ADHD life‑hacks, TikTok doom‑scroll confessions and snack takes, then trace how screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen’s own dojo days birthed The Karate Kid. But the real blockbuster twist is the Chan family itself—proof that even cinema’s most fearless action hero can’t outshine the secrets that shaped him.

This week, Grant and Maia attempt to answer a big question “why do we love Romcoms so much?”. Our episode takes us through the history of romantic comedies. From the Greeks to ways Shakespeare still influences the stories we tell today. We talk about how romantic comedies are some of our oldest stories and so much more than just “chick flicks”. Finally, we revel in our favorite romcoms and share in our delight of both Bridget Jones Diary and Jane Austen. Are you reading to avoid the news? Us too.
Ever feel like your life is one awkward rom-com away from greatness? In this sprawling, laugh-out-loud episode, Grant and Maia dive into the wonderfully chaotic world of rom-coms—and all the real-life moments that feel just as scripted (but with way worse lighting). From hilarious classroom mishaps and movie theater disasters to quirky family stories and spontaneous philosophical tangents, they explore how love, vulnerability, and a bit of messiness make for the best stories—on screen and off. Along the way, they unpack classic rom-com tropes, trace their roots from Shakespearean drama to Sandra Bullock blockbusters, and get unexpectedly deep about personal growth, emotional risk-taking, and the everyday magic of falling for someone—or something—at the wrong time, in the right way. Whether you’re a hopeless romantic, a film nerd, or just someone who’s cried over a well-placed movie montage, this episode will hit you right in the feels (and probably make you laugh-snort in public).

Stories from the Well, I Laughed universe! Makayla reminisces on the time she had beef with a middle-aged, high school theater teacher. Emily learns of the pitfalls of “hell yeah girl, get your…” the hard way. Jane accidentally gets a production of a children’s play picketed. Alexandra doesn’t quite master a German accent. And Kylie finds out that three really is a crowd. All that and more, this week on Well, I Laughed!
It’s a triple threat, all right, but this time, you brought the drama. In this episode, we read off your wildest listener stories: theater teachers going rogue, awkward movie dates with little siblings tagging along, nudes discovered in all the worst ways, and so much more. If you ever needed confirmation that real life can rival any staged production, this episode is it. We also manage to squeeze in our usual banter: hair-raising U-Haul mishaps, that universal hatred of cleaning when you move out, and oh-so-confusing first (and second... and third) dates. Enjoy these back-to-back doses of comedic chaos, plus a bonus cameo from society’s weird obsession with “filth” in high school musicals. Cue the eye-roll.
